Under the Trump administration, the rise in immigration enforcement and deportations, alongside increased anti-immigrant rhetoric and sentiment, has had significant negative health consequences. For these reasons, healthcare facilities have reacted by applying new policies and actions to both welcome their immigrant patients and to protect them from immigration enforcement in the healthcare setting.
In 2018, we conducted in-depth interviews across the five states to identify the range of policies and actions that can be implemented. Our toolkit and videos describe 13 policies and actions we identified after analyzing our interviews. These serve as example policies and actions for other healthcare facilities to consider and implement in response to increased fear among immigrant patients and changes in their health-seeking behaviors.
